This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information about you when you use the Bubsi app and website.

By using Bubsi, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

• Your name, email address, password, profile photo, and suburb
• The content of your listings, including photos, descriptions, prices, and item details
• Messages you send to other users through the app
• Reviews you write about other users
• Reports or support requests you submit

Information collected automatically:

• Your approximate location (derived from the suburb you provide) to show nearby listings and set your listing's pickup area. We do not track your precise GPS location in the background.
• Basic activity information about how you use the app (for example, listings you save or view)

Payment information:

When you pay for a Boost, your payment is processed securely by Stripe and Apple Pay. We do not receive or store your full card details.

Device permissions:

With your permission, we access your camera and photo library so you can add photos to your listings and profile. You can manage these permissions in your device settings at any time.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Create and manage your account
• Operate, maintain, and improve Bubsi
• Show you listings near you and help buyers and sellers connect
• Facilitate communication and transactions between users
• Generate suggested listing details from the photos you upload, using an AI service
• Moderate content and keep the platform safe, including detecting objectionable or unlawful content
• Send you emails about your account, such as verification, password resets, and important notices
• Respond to your enquiries, reports, and support requests
• Comply with our legal obligations

Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal information.

With other users:

We share limited information with other users only as necessary to operate the marketplace — for example, your name, profile photo, suburb, listings, and reviews are visible to other users, and your approximate distance from a listing is shown. Please be mindful of what you include in listing photos, descriptions, and messages.

With service providers:

We share data with the following third-party providers who help us run Bubsi. Each processes data on our behalf and under their own privacy terms:

• Convex — database and backend infrastructure (hosting your account data, listings, and messages)
• Stripe — payment processing for Boost purchases
• Apple — app distribution and Apple Pay payments
• Resend — sending account emails (verification, password reset, notices)
• OpenAI — automated moderation of uploaded images to detect objectionable content
• Anthropic — AI-powered generation of suggested listing details from your photos

For legal reasons:

We may disclose information where required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Bubsi, our users, or others.

Overseas Disclosure

Some of our service providers store or process data on servers located outside Australia, including in the United States. Where we disclose your personal information to overseas recipients, we take reasonable steps to ensure they handle it consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles. By using Bubsi, you acknowledge that your information may be processed overseas.

Data Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure. This includes encrypted connections, secure authentication, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data Breaches

If a data breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) in accordance with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

Data Retention

We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. If you delete your account, we delete your associated personal information, except where we are required to retain certain records to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Correct information that is inaccurate or out of date
• Delete your account and associated personal information at any time through Settings → Delete Account

Children's Privacy

Bubsi is intended for use by adults. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Complaints

If you have a complaint about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first at privacy@bubsi.com.au so we can try to resolve it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au or by calling 1300 363 992.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or in-app notice, and the “Last updated” date above will change. Your continued use of Bubsi after an update means you accept the revised policy.
